Covid-19 Task Force: Fake Vaccine Syndicate Not Found in Indonesia

JAKARTA - The Covid-19 Task Force responded to an issue related to an International fake vaccine syndicate. Interpol recently dismantled a network of fake vaccine syndicates in China and South Africa. Regarding this, the Spokesperson for the Covid-19 Task Force, Prof. Wiku Adisasmito, emphasized that there is no fake vaccine syndicate in Indonesia until now.

"Until now, such syndicates have not been found in Indonesia. All vaccines are procured through the G to G (government to government) scheme so that the authenticity of the vaccines is guaranteed," he said in an International Media Briefing, Monday (8/3/2021) as broadcast at BNPB Indonesia's YouTube channel.

Although currently no such cases have been found, Wiku emphasized that the government continues to monitor vaccine counterfeiting. The government also educates and coordinates with companies that procure other vaccines under the cooperation scheme; this ensures the authenticity of the vaccines that the company holds.

Every vaccine that the company holds must also obtain an Emergency Use of Authorization (EUA) or Distribution License Number from the Food and Drug Inspection Agency (Badan POM). "It should be noted that counterfeiting the Covid-19 vaccine is a crime that endangers people's lives in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic," said Wiku.
